So this is what happened: After I saw How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, I went out to the stage door, and stood about two people back. I asked the doorman how likely it would be that I would get anything signed. He said it would be absolutely next to impossible. So Daniel finally steps out, and starts signing things. Once he gets near me, I say, “Daniel, it’s my sixteenth birthday, can I get a picture?” He looked up and said “Where are you?” I raised my hand and he looked at me and said “I’m sorry darling, I can’t do pictures tonight, but give me your poster. What’s your name?” I told him my name and spelled it for him, he handed it back to me, and asked him of he had any advice for aspiring young actors. He thought about it while signing other people’s things, and then told me “Work as hard as you can for as long as you can, and never let anyone tell you no.” then he looked me straight in the face, touched my hand, and genuinely said, “Good luck. I hope you make it.” My poster says “To Delaney. Happy 16th Birthday! Daniel Radcliffe” The doorman was shocked. He said he’d never seen that happen before. This is why I want to be an actor. Because I want to be able to inspire teenage actors like Daniel inspired me. Best Sweet Sixteen ever.
Well damn, Dan….way to be.
